Wig Install, Salt Lake City | Rhys Hair Loft
Wigs are an underused tool in Salt Lake City's textured hair community — and we're working to change that. At Rhys Hair Loft, wig installs serve two distinct kinds of clients: those who want styling versatility and protective rest for their natural hair, and those navigating hair loss who need a real, dignified solution. We approach both with the same level of care.
Types of wig installs we offer
- Lace front install — temple-to-temple lace for natural-looking hairline and styling versatility
- Closure wig install — smaller lace section at the part, ideal for low-maintenance daily wear
- Glueless install — combs, bands, or elastic-based installation with no adhesives
- Adhesive install — for clients who want longer-wear, secure installation (bond and lace adhesive)
- Medical / hair loss wig install — trichology-led, for clients with chemotherapy hair loss, alopecia, traction alopecia, or other medical hair loss
- Bridal / event wig styling — full installation and styling for weddings, formals, photoshoots
What's included in a wig install at Rhys Hair Loft?
Every wig installation includes:
- Pre-install consultation — wig fit check, hairline placement, expectations setting
- Cleanse and prep of your natural hair (tucked under or styled flat)
- Cornrow or low-pony foundation to flatten the natural hair
- Wig customization — plucking, bleach knots, tinting if needed (additional service)
- Installation — glueless, adhesive, or hybrid based on your choice
- Styling and cut — finished look ready for wear
- Aftercare instructions — how to remove, store, and maintain
For clients new to wigs, we typically build a 2-appointment plan: customization first, install second.

Why wig installs are an underused tool
Most textured-hair clients in Utah have grown up thinking of wigs as either old-fashioned or temporary. Modern wigs are neither. Three reasons we recommend a wig rotation:
- Total natural hair rest. Your hair underneath gets a complete vacation — no daily styling, no friction, no heat.
- Styling versatility. Different wigs for different occasions; a silk press one week, curls the next, color the week after — without committing your real hair to any of it.
- Climate independence. A wig doesn't care about Utah's dry weather. Your real hair, sealed underneath, gets to live in a controlled microclimate.
Many of our braid and sew-in clients also keep one or two wigs in rotation for variety.
Wigs for hair loss clients
If you're experiencing hair loss — from chemotherapy, alopecia, post-relaxer breakage, traction alopecia recovery, or postpartum shedding — a wig can give you immediate confidence while your hair recovers underneath.
Our trichology-led approach to hair loss wig installs:
- Longer consultation to understand the cause of hair loss and timeline
- Wig recommendations matched to your needs and budget
- Scalp-safe installation — no adhesives on already-stressed skin if avoidable
- Concurrent regrowth treatment plan — we work on the underlying cause while you wear the wig
- Privacy and dignity throughout — appointments scheduled when the salon is quieter, separate consult room available
We also work with clients on hair replacement systems (more permanent, woven-in solutions) for those who need longer-term coverage.
FAQ
How much is a wig install in Salt Lake City? At Rhys Hair Loft, glueless lace installs start at $80, adhesive lace front installs run $120–$200, and full bridal or event installs reach $400. Customization (plucking, bleaching, tinting) is priced separately at $80–$200.
Can I bring my own wig? Yes — most clients do. Bring it to your consultation so we can assess fit, customization needs, and install method.
What's the difference between a glueless and adhesive install? A glueless install uses combs, elastic bands, or adjustable straps to hold the wig — no adhesive on the skin. An adhesive install uses bond or lace tape for longer wear (up to 1–2 weeks) but requires careful removal and skin protection.
How long does a wig install last? Glueless installs are daily wear — you remove them at night. Adhesive installs typically last 7–14 days before needing to come off and the lace re-applied.
Can wigs cause hair loss? A properly installed wig protects your hair. Damage occurs only when the wig is worn over a too-tight braid base, glued directly to fragile edges, or worn continuously without breaks. Our installs are designed to prevent all three.
Do you do hair loss or medical wig installs? Yes. We offer trichology-led consultations for clients with hair loss from any cause, and we install both wigs and longer-term hair replacement systems with privacy and care.
Can I sleep in a glueless wig? We recommend removing it at night. Wigs trap heat and friction during sleep, and your scalp benefits from breathing time. Adhesive installs are designed for continuous wear within the 1–2 week window.
